Before my visit, I thought that Venice was an overrated destination. There were even rumors about unpleasant odors emanating from the canals. However, the moment I set foot in Venice, my perspective took a complete U-turn. Let me tell you why Venice is absolutely worth visiting.

St. Mark’s Square
The main square of Venice, known as one of the most famous spots, boasts impressive architecture. However, it tends to get quite crowded with vendors and lots of people, making it difficult to capture a nice photo or simply savor the surroundings peacefully. While it’s a pleasant place for a leisurely stroll, I have to admit it’s not one of my personal favorites in Venice.
Doge’s Palace
Located adjacent to St. Mark’s Square and facing the sea, this particular spot grabbed my attention not so much for its architecture, but for the breathtaking view it offered. What truly enchanted me was the scenic walk along the coast, crossing a series of charming bridges. This delightful stroll came highly recommended by the friendly hotel owner. I must say it quickly became one of my favorite experiences in the city. That walk around the coast was very relaxing, definitely that walk is a experience that makes Venice worth visiting.
Acqua Alta Bookstore
An enchanting old bookstore that gets flooded when the water level rises. Despite its small size, it exudes a unique charm with gondolas filled with books, creating a whimsical atmosphere. Keep in mind, the store tends to get crowded, making it a bit challenging to walk around. Nevertheless, if venture to the right, you’ll discover a great photo spot: a small outlet overlooking the sea where a gondola awaits. You can take stunning free pictures here. The entrance to this gem is free, and although it was a bit hidden, you could easily find it by searching on maps.
Rialto Bridge
This iconic landmark was one of the first sights we encountered upon our arrival in Venice, conveniently located near our hotel. While the bridge itself is undeniably beautiful and provides a breathtaking view of the city, it tends to be bustling with crowds, making it challenging to fully appreciate it. However, here’s a helpful tip: as you reach the bridge, you can descend some stairs and follow a pathway leading to the sea. From there, you can take amazing photos, with stunning views and few people in sight! This place in Venice worth visiting.
Rialto Fish Market
During lunchtime, we stopped by the fish market, which despite its name, sells all kinds of fruits, vegetables, and, of course, fish. That’s where I tried a fruit I had never seen before called “Mirtilli Rossi,” which are actually red cranberries. Surprisingly, I had never experienced their natural, non-dried form until then. Everything was fresh, and it made for a perfect snack break while continuing to explore this beautiful city.
What attractions in Venice make me confidently affirm that it’s indeed worth visiting?
Streets and Bridges
In our opinion, the best part of Venice is simply walking and getting lost in its beautiful, narrow streets, and crossing its numerous bridges. They have a unique charm that took us by surprise. From there, we could watch the elegant gondolas passing by and indulge in delicious gelato. It was undoubtedly the highlight of this city for us. I still remember the narrow streets of Venice full of mistery that were worth visiting.
Shops and Crafts
An important part of our visit to Venice was exploring the small shops where you could find various irregular-shaped glass crafts in different colors, wooden crafts, and unique stamps for envelopes with typical Venetian initials. Personally, I love wandering through these shops, and Venice had some of the most beautiful and stunning crafts in all of Europe. You simply can’t miss it! These shops allow you to immerse yourself in the culture and history of the city, which is always fascinating, especially for someone who comes from afar.
Dinner at Nono Risorto Restaurant
This restaurant was personally recommended by our hotel host, and boy, did it make an impression on us! The atmosphere was buzzing with life. Made me remember Prague. We decided to go for the menu of the day, which happened to be their specialty, and let me tell you, it was a culinary experience to remember. The seafood pasta in the first course was hands down the best we had during our entire European journey. The second course featured mouthwatering meat accompanied by a refreshing salad. And oh, did I mention the desserts? We couldn’t resist indulging in a lemon delight and a luscious tiramisu, both of which were absolutely exquisite. Every bite was a taste of heaven. The cherry on top? The prices were surprisingly reasonable, making it even more delightful. We couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience. Nono Risorto in Venice is worth visiting 100%.
Venice exceeded my expectations, and I realized it’s a place full of unique and enchanting experiences. The beauty of the canals and the vibrant atmosphere of the city left a lasting impression on me. It’s definitely a destination worth exploring and savoring. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we didn’t have a chance to visit the islands of Burano and Murano, but we’ll save that for our next trip.
